Clinic Visit

What to Expect

A consultation will be performed to cover your health concerns and relevant history. During this time you will have an opportunity to ask questions or discuss concerns. Traditional diagnostic methods may be used to establish the root cause of your imbalance, including pulse reading and tongue inspection.

After the consultation, you proceed into the community room and take a seat in the recliner of your choice. Once seated, remove your socks and shoes and roll your pants and sleeves above your knees and elbows—you remain fully clothed during the treatment. After you are comfortably situated, your acupuncturist will begin the needling treatment. After needles are placed, they are retained for a period of time while you rest. The typical rest period is 30 minutes to 1 hour, but please feel free to stay as long as you like. When you feel you are sufficiently “cooked,” simply make eye contact with the acupuncturist or give a slight cough, and you will be promptly “unpinned.”

On subsequent visits, a very brief intake will be performed to gather necessary information. Talking is minimized in order to focus our attention on the acupuncture treatment itself. If you would like to speak to the acupuncturist at length, please schedule a separate consultation for that purpose.

Preparation & Etiquette

The soothing atmosphere in our community room exists because patients create it together through their collective healing energy. To help maintain this peaceful sanctuary, we kindly request that you refrain from socializing while in the room and speak in whispers when communicating information to your acupuncturist.

Feel free to enjoy a cup of tea before or after your treatment.

We recommend having something to eat about an hour before your treatment.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes that can be easily rolled above the elbows and knees.

Please refrain from wearing any perfumes, scented oils or scented hair products within the clinic, as many patients are very sensitive to fragrances.

Silence is golden! Please turn off your cellphones when entering the clinic and be respectful of those who have come to relax and renew as you have.

Feel free to bring earplugs, headphones, blankets or anything else that will help you relax more comfortably during your treatment.

If possible, set aside time after your treatment to rest.
